Lincoln County Welcomes a Summer Government Intern
Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission teamed up with the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center this summer to hire Natalie Thomsen as a Summer Government Intern. From Lisbon, Natalie graduated from the University of Maine Farmington this spring (business economics major, and legal studies and geography minor). She is set to begin a graduate program in Policy, Planning, and Management at USM this fall.
Natalie’s been very versatile for the LCRPC this summer, contributing her GIS skills to a Shore & Harbor grant application, researching income and unemployment data, helping to build our database of Lincoln County farms, farmers markets, food stores, food pantries, and other food/agricultural-related businesses and organizations. This updated and expanded database will be critical to the County’s continuing work in emergency food access and in longer-term planning to strengthen our local and statewide food systems.
The other major purpose of the MCS Intern Program is to introduce Maine college students to municipal, state, and in our case – county – governments. Natalie’s participated in LCRPC board meetings and our current strategic planning process, getting to know several local officials mostly by Zoom (not quite the same as in-person, but she’s having fun!)
